Istanbul Blue mosque

Turkey, the seat of the Islamic Ottoman Empire

One of my most favorite destinations is Turkey, from ancient mosques to modern high-rise malls. It is a city steeped in culture and history. In Istanbul, it is the views of the Bosphorus that will dominate your visit.

I stayed around Sultanahmet Square, and I explored the old city bij foot. Things to do in Istanbul.

Amrish Puri as Mogambo in Mr. India

Image

Speak about Amrish Puri and the first character that strikes your mind is that of the invincible Mogambo. Mogambo had a costume, a stick, a throne and a group of loyalists who would jump in acid water on his one call.

Mogambo (Amrish Puri) : Film-Mr.India

Achievements and Activities: Terrorism, creating chaos and horror by means of bombs in public places, stealing costly antiques. Owns an army of dedicated soldiers who keep shouting “Hail Mogambo”. Keeps an eye on the latest developments in science and technology, and is assisted by a Chinese scientist. He has a large den, with sliding doors, acid tanks, a huge lounge area with a world map drawn on the floor. He even has got the missiles man. And yeah, it has the “don’t pull it” Lever as well. He is straight out of some comic strip. Because Mogambo overshadows all the other caracters in the movie.

Amrish Puri has essayed almost every character in his long spanning career. But one of the most standout roles was that of Mogambo. His role played a key part in establishing the image of Indian Villains on a film and the film fraternity in general. People still refer to his role and dialogues.

Mannerism: Mogambo is described as an international terrorist who is willing to go to any extent to conquer India. He is a brilliant yet cruel General who is utilising his powers for the wrong cause. From his self conquered Island, Mogambo keeps an eye on the entire activity going on. Amrish Puri’s portrayal was the best and most remembered.

Famous Dialogue: “Mogambo Khush Hua”.

Holland: a holiday amidst the tulip fields.

Dekha ek kwaab to je silsele hui

Come To Holland

Famous for its tulips

The Netherlands are worldwide known for several things. Most possibly, you as a tourist, associate Holland with windmills, wooden shoes, weed, Johan Cruijff and tulips. Tulips are important as a tourist attraction, but also as an export product, selling extremely big quantities, but what’s even more important: the tulips are of a marvellous quality too.

Tulips are lovely looking flowers and a field full of tulips in several colors is nice to walk through, so when you are on a vacation to Holland: just  relax and spend some time between these lovely flowers.

Claude Monet loved to paint tulips

Even Claude Monet, the famous 19th century painter loved the softly waving tulip fields in the Dutch Westland between Amsterdam and The Hague. Monet painted these fields, so that they would be worshipped forever. Many people that like to paint for their hobby also painted tulips since…

Amjad Khan as Gabbar

Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh in Sholay

If there is a contest to pick the most famous negative character from Indian films, it has to be Gabbar Singh from Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay (1975). Can you believe, Sholay was only the fifth film of Amjad’s career (and the first three starring him only as child artist). His other notable acts are from Muqaddar ka Continue reading

He is the villain!

Bollywood villain

Bollywood villain Sanjay Dutt in Khalnayak.

Things are changing radically in B-town, a typical Bollywood saga is incomplete without a happy ending where the makers ensure that the hero gives a good dosage of bashing to the villain before the end credits start rolling. Villains have always existed. Almost always dressed in a particular outfit, the villain was the most technology-friendly person in a Hindi movie. His den (he always had a den) was a miracle of gadgets. Doors would
